Connecting with characters

Explaining ways on when creating or already created characters can be giving a story or life to them as to feel connected with them
is/was having another pony up for sell a second of which the first one I bought/adopted because she ouldn't really connect with the character so i gave a few tips/ideas in a way to get closer to her character.
